Ahoy hoy Tasty Brews gang,
Last Saturday I went to a potluck which turned out to be a surprise birthday party for yours truly, which was totally amazing!!! Even more amazing were all the gifts in the form of alcohol, including many types of beer, champagne, and even a bottle of 10 year porto (so classy!).
The most interesting beer was a bottle of Mort Subite Kriek from Belgium given to me by JTA, who claimed it was the most expensive bottle at the SAQ ($5). I was intrigued as I had never seen this type of brew before.
After the potluck feast, a few brews, busting up a pinata, and a long chat about homemade pads, it was time for the Mort Subite. Mort Subite means Sudden Death, and Kriek means cherry. Despite the tough name, this beer is very much a wimp drink. It looks like a mini bottle of champagne and it is just as carbonated. It tastes like raspberries at first, very sweet and tart, but the aftertaste settles in as more of a dark cherry flavour. It has a very complex flavour, and is more like a soda than a beer.
It is very light in body, which helped because my stomach was full of cupcakes and jumbleberry pie, and I probably would have hurled if I was drinking stout. It took me a while to drink because it was so sweet, and every time I'd take a sip I would salivate like when you put a sour key in your mouth and your jaw kinks up and you gleek all over the place. It goes down great if you're alternating with champagne and chips, and would make a great summer brew. Despite having mixed 4 very sweet drinks in my belly over the course of the evening, my hangover level was at a medium-low. PARTY!
Sexily yours,
Aislinn
