Someone introduced me to black velvet a few years back at Blizzarts. Since I'm all about stouts I was told to try it and thank god I did. That shit is delicious!
In a pint glass, Guiness and cider are mixed, creating a really cool layering effect which makes your drink look more badass. Then people come up to you being all "whats THAT?!". From my experience, not a lot of people are familiar with it and flip out and say "no way that sounds gross can I try it!?" and then the next thing you know your goddamn drink is gone simply because it looks cooler than everything else.
After we all participated in a beer swamp experiment (more to come on that soon), I was researching other beer mixes and came across the description of a black velvet and it said "a mix of Guiness and champagne"!! that sounds way fucking better!
I checked it out on wikipedia and discovered that the cider version is known as THE POOR MAN'S black velvet :(:(
Since I am a poor (wo)man I guess I'll have to settle for the cider versh but now all I'm thinking about is how good champagne and Guiness sounds.

I'm not much into mixing beers, but it does seem that Guinness is a part of many of them. Black & Tan, Black & Blue, Black Cherry, The Black Eye... the Guinness and cider is a new one to me!
yesssss black velvet!
totally have a proper black velvet for brunch on saturday. Did it with Borel Noir. It's mega tasty!
